Valais - Where winter is at home
Valais
In the Alps of the Valais, winter is truly at home. Every year it returns to the sunny Rhone Valley,
and its 47 peaks of more than 4,000m, to create a wintry playground: promising days of thrills on
the powder-filled slopes, cross-country trails and halfpipes, and nights of romance in the cosy
mountain inns.

Valais, because winter magic has come closer.
The opening of the Lötschberg base tunnel on 9 December 2007 marks the beginning of a new era for
the Valais, as travel times will be slashed by more than an hour.
The region has so much to offer: gourmet mountain restaurants and a host of winter sports in a dazzling
snowy setting; a charming landscape that is the backdrop for winter walking paths, toboggan runs and
cross-country trails; thermal baths full of revitalizing spring water… All this makes for Valais wellness, an
integral part of the Valais winter. Add to that the rich cultural heritage, and fascinating local traditions that
are very much alive, and this warm-hearted and welcoming region makes an unforgettable destination for
a snow holiday – now closer than ever.
