Swiss Knife Valley

Select your Region:

Everyone has heard about the red Swiss penknife, the practical all-rounder to take wherever you go. Every day 25’000 knives are sent from Schwyz, the home of the world-famous multi-tool, to destinations around the globe. It's hardly surprising then that the tourism destination around the capital of the canton of Schwyz meanwhile goes under the name of «Swiss Knife Valley».
The Swiss Knife Valley holiday and excursion destinations in the historic heart of Switzerland offer varied countryside and relaxation, experiences and adventures: Stoos, a local and car-free holiday area, is located on a sun terrace with a wonderful view of Lake Lucerne, and is particularly popular with hikers, bikers and paraglider pilots. Sattel-Hochstuckli, boasting the worldwide first cableway with rotating cars, offers the opportunity for a particularly thrilling ride. And the summer toboggan run and ‘Stuckli Jump’ facility featuring trampolines and bouncy castles are popular with children.

Sport and wellness take centre-stage at the Swiss Holiday Park on the Morschach sun terrace where you will find luxurious wellness, spa, sports and leisure facilities, a 4-star hotel, Reka holiday apartments and multi-bed accommodation.

Wildly romantic countryside and local culture unite in the Mouta Valley which is also famous for its “weather forecasters”, the biggest sub-Alpine pine forest with jungle character in Europe, and the Hölloch karst cave system.

The Rigi, or Queen of Mountains, is a famous excursion destination located in the triangle formed by Lake Constance, Lake Zug and Lake Lauerz. Railways up to the peak depart from Goldau, Vitznau and Weggis. Cableways take passengers from Gersau and Goldau to Rigi-Scheidegg, starting point for many hikes. And the panorama trail between Scheidegg and Kaltbad provides the perfect opportunity for circular tours of the Rigi.

The Museum of the Swiss Charters in Schwyz houses the historic testimonies of the early Swiss confederacy, and the Forum of Swiss History provides an opportunity for a multi-media experience of everyday life between 1300 and 1800.

At Goldau Zoo deer will eat out of the hands of children. The extensive enclosure in which the animals move around freely enables direct contact with the animals. The zoo, located romantically in the wild countryside of the big Goldau rock fall with its house-high rocks, is predominantly home to European animals.

Highlights of the Swiss Knife Valley further include the Hoch-Ybrig holiday and sports paradise, the cosy mountain village of Illgau, and Einsiedeln, place of pilgrimage with a famous baroque church.

Winter

The Swiss Knife Valley winter holiday region comprises 40 transport facilities with more than 90 km of pistes, a fun park, half-pipes, toboggan runs, cross-country skiing, snow-shoe trekking and winter hiking trails, dotted around the family-friendly winter sports areas of Stoos-Fronalpstock, Sattel-Hochstuckli, by the Rigi and at the feet of the two mythical peaks.
