Welcome to sunny Unterbäch,
the "Rütli of Swiss women" in the heart of Valais,
sport, recreation and pure pleasure.
This is where, in 1957, Swiss women first had the vote - against the wishes of the Swiss Federal Government. The visitor-friendly village of Unterbäch, with a population of 460, lies on a high sunny plateau at an altitude of 1,239 metres above sea level. Its central location in Upper Valais makes it the ideal spot for setting out on excursions throughout the region. Opposite Unterbäch, on the other side of the valley and framed by a unique mountain panorama, the imposing Bietschhorn mountain, a UNESCO world natural heritage site since 1999, watches over the village.

Unterbäch, surrounded by a snow-covered mountain panorama that takes your breath away! We can offer you broad, well cared for pistes for beginners, experts, Alpine skiers, snowboarders and ski tours.
Our mountain railways take you directly from the village to an easily accessible winter sports region where snow is guaranteed.
Forget your everyday cares and enjoy your holiday to your heart's content with après ski, snowshoeing, tobogganing, winter walks or soaking up the sun on the sun terrace of one of six restaurants whilst savouring a glass of Valais wine and a cheese fondue.
And we organise a "Find the Fox" game in the snow for our smaller visitors. Hiring monster scooters, "Brandalp-Blitz" or taking part in a gastro-safari offers each visitor not only culinary specialities, but also adventure, fun and sport of a somewhat different kind.

Public Transport: InterCity- & EuroCity connections, Basle-Berne-Brig-Visp-Raron Cable car from Raron-Unterbäch, journey time 8 mins.
By car:
- Motorway: Basle/Zurich - Berne - Spiez (N6)
- Country road: to Kandersteg - car carrier train to Goppenstein (15 mins.)
- Goppenstein-Gampel-Turtmann-Eischoll-Unterbäch or via Visp-Unterbäch or
