Not far from there, hidden from prying eyes, lies Europe's largest navigable underground lake ready to unveil its secrets. While out walking in Val d'Hérens, be sure not to miss the world's highest gravity dam, the Grande-Dixence, which stands at 285 metres. Around a hundred ski lifts will take you to altitudes of up to 3,300 m, opening up to view some remarkable vistas of prestigious summits such as the Matterhorn, Dent-Blanche or Mont-Blanc.
