Winter sports

The new glacier lift opens up the attractive snow-sure ski area on the sunny Lauchernalp (3,111 m) in the Lötschen Valley – a dream area for ski and snowboard enthusiasts, with its breathtakingly beautiful views of 40 of the 4,000 m peaks of Canton Valais and the Bernese Oberland. Small but just as attractive ski areas are also to be found in Kandersteg, Kiental-Reichenbach and Jeizinen ob Gampel, with a total of 15 lifts and cableways and 50 km of pistes for all abilities. The region is also highly rated by ski tourers and freeriders.

Cross-country skiing

Skate along the excellently prepared cross-country trails around Kandersteg and explore those along the fascinating Lötschen Valley. Enjoy a spot of high altitude cross-country skiing at Sunnbüel, or try out the floodlit trails in Kippel and ski right into the night – a real insider tip! The Lötschberg holiday region truly is paradise for cross-country skiers – up to 90 km of skating and classical trails are prepared each day just for you!

Winter hiking and snowshoeing

The stunning natural area of the UNESCO world natural heritage site is perfect for winter hiking and snowshoeing. Undisputed highlights are Kandersteg to Leukerbad, via the Gemmi Pass, or Europe’s highest winter walking trail up on the Lauchernalp.
