With its three mountain chains, four cable cars and 28 welcoming mountain guesthouses, the Alpstein is a superb hiking area.
At the summit stands the Säntis, the highest peak in Eastern Switzerland, followed by the Altmann and Hoher Kasten. There are also wonderful walks through valleys, forests and over lush meadows, as well as theme trails - a joy for all nature lovers. Here every trail leads into Appenzellerland.
New: rotating restaurant on Hoher Kasten
In spring 2008 the new rotating restaurant on Hoher Kasten is opening. While guests tuck into delicious Appenzell specialities, the wonderful Alpstein panorama, with views of five countries, will glide gently by - once every hour.
New: Kronberg rope park
Courage, skill and concentration are required by those tackling the trails high up in the trees on the Kronberg. A variety of routes consisting of rope bridges, platforms high in the trees and other obstacles run through the forest, up to eight metres above the ground - with safety attachments throughout. Open to children from the age of eight (accompanied).
