Aletsch
At 23 km, the Aletsch glacier is the longest ice river in the Alps, and the impressive emblem of a region that has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2001.
Glacier tours with expert local guides, not to mention an extensive network of footpaths, offer fascinating insights into this ancient landscape. Equally protected is the Aletsch forest, a few hundred metres higher up. Also belonging to the Aletsch region are the unspoilt, car-free holiday villages of Fiescheralp, Bettmeralp and Riederalp. The ridge between Riederfurka and the Eggishorn offers an especially beautiful view of the glacier.

Valley of minerals.

Among mineral aficionados, the wild and romantic Binntal is a classic: more than 160 varieties of crystal, some extremely rare, are found in this nature reserve, which borders directly on the oldest natural park in Piedmont in Italy. Old smugglers’ routes, now marked as footpaths and mountain bike trails, lead up to the passes in just a few hours. The geological centre and educational trail reveal many of the valley’s hidden secrets.

The Jungfrau-Aletsch Region is nowlabelled World Natural Heritage by UNESCO.Known for the extraordinary beauty of its land-scape,it is the first and only site in the Alps tobear this honorable distinction.
