Halfway between Gruyère and Gstaad at an altitude of 1,000 metres, Château-d'Oex is the principal town of the Pays-d'Enhaut («Up there country») and an ideal destination for all those seeking peace and relaxation through sport. Alpine flora and fauna abound in the beautiful scenery here.
Since time immemorial, visitors have mingled with the farmers and mountain artisans, whose splendid decorated chalets are such a feature of the local scene. NEW: «The ant trail» a 3.5 kilometre long exhibition and nature trail enabling a fascinating new world to be discovered. For keen hikers and walkers, the «Via Ferrata» between La Videmanette and Rougemont a delightfully welcoming village not far from Château-d'Oex, is now open, giving panoramic vistas of outstanding beauty.
