The mountain village of Grächen lies on a broad sun terrace at an altitude of 1620 metres. This well-known Valais family holiday resort is encircled by majestic mountain colossi, including several four-thousand-metre peaks. In summer, Grächen is the ideal starting point for rambles, while a beautiful winter sports region awaits visitors in winter.
The typical Valais timber houses which characterise the car-free village centre of Grächen have been burnt black by the sun. The holiday resort is distinguished by the «Families Welcome» quality mark; playgrounds, childcare and all manner of children’s needs which can be hired are also on offer here. St. Niklaus with its long-standing tradition of mountain guides lies on the valley floor of the Mattertal (Matt valley) where the side road forks off to Grächen.

A special attraction is the Grächen «Walk of Fame», on which regular guests to Grächen and famous people are immortalised with a footprint, much like its namesake in Hollywood.

Summer

From rambles across colourful rough pastures and along traditional irrigation channels (bisses) through to spectacular high-altitude and extended treks – all of these can be found in Grächen. The ‘Europaweg’ (Europe Trail) from Grächen to Zermatt is regarded as the crowning sector of the several-day Monte Rosa Tour.

The Hannigalp and Seetalhorn cableways provide access to a fantastic panorama. Fearless mountain bikers can venture down the 7-km-long downhill trail from Seetalhorn to Grächen.

For children, there is much to discover in the family park. A holiday’s afternoon can disappear in a flash on the exclusive ‘Ravensburg Spieleweg’ (a games trail for the entire family) or in Robi’s Play Park with its haunted house, giant slide, fairytale themed-walk and more. Even Pippi Langstrumpf spends her holidays in Grächen and gets up to lots of amusing mischief every Wednesday afternoon.

Winter

Two cable cars lead up to the snow-assured ski areas of the Hannigalp (up to 2272 metres) and Seetalhorn (2868 metres). 12 km of cross-country ski trails, a toboggan run and 25 km of well-maintained winter walking paths also help to draw non-skiers out into the snow-covered winter landscape. Children can enjoy themselves with fun and games in the large «‘Schnöö’ Children’s Paradise» on the Hannigalp. The magic carpet (conveyor belt) and ski carousel will help them to get a feel for wearing skis.
