Resorts 
Previously only accessible with difficulty, many of the old customs and ways of life have been retained in the Lötschental. The «Tschäggätä» is an example: during the carnival period, terrifying figures clad in animal skins and carved wooden masks wander through the villages of the Lötschental to the loud clanking sounds of cowbells (“treichel”) worn on their belts.
Summer
In summer, walkers abound in the Lötschental which has specialised in meeting the needs of guests seeking relaxation and closer ties with nature. The walk from the Lauchernalp across the Lötschenpass into the Bernese Oberland to Kandersteg ranks among the classics of the region. Fafleralp, situated right at the rear of the Lötschental is the starting point of the Lötschental ‘high route’ across south-facing Alpine pastureland through to the Lauchernalp.
Winter
The Lötschental ski area is the south-facing, sunny Lauchernalp above the village of Wiler with attractive faculties for the entire family. From here, a glacier cableway leads up into the Märwig/Gandegg region and up onto the Hockenhorngrat (3111 m, glacier ski area with numerous medium-difficulty pistes and freeride arena), and also provides access to a winter walking trail at over 3000 metres in altitude with panoramic views of 40 four-thousand-metre mountain summits. For cross-country skiers, there is a long trail on the valley floor, an illuminated night trail and a demanding ascent trail onto the Lauchernalp.
