Valposchiavo in summer

«The unexpected! In the Valposchiavo you'll come across it both in nature as well as in the villages, particularly in Poschiavo, the centrally located place whose strangeness it is impossible to be prepared for». (Wolfgang Hildesheimer, author)Poschiavo, the capital of the beautiful mountain valley nestling between the Bernina region and the Veltlin, offers the observer a never-ending array of unexpected delights: the small town ambience, patrician houses surrounding the Piazza and in the 'Spaniolen' quarter (Spaniolenviertel) narrow streets, culinary delights, ancient traditions and warm hospitality.
But apart from the sights there are plenty of other reasons to visit the Valposchiavo. Incidentally, the pleasantest way to travel there is by the Rhaetian Railway's Bernina Express. The magnificent valley offers strikingly beautiful views of and into charming natural landscapes: the eternal snow of the Bernina for example, the blue shimmering lake in Le Prese or the vineyards of the Veltlin.
Valposchiavo in winter

The disturbed powdery snow underfoot rises in puffs like icing sugar, the sun breaks through the clouds, an idyllic winter landscape is revealed: the Valposchiavo loses none of its outstanding beauty and uniqueness in winter. It is an ideal destination not only for those seeking relaxation far from bustling activity but also for those who like being active and enjoy sport and fun in the glistening snow. Well-known ski regions such as the Oberengadin and the Bernina region are accessible in no time from the valley. The ride on the Rhaetian Railway offering a unique winter panorama on the Bernina run is a very special experience. The outstanding cuisine and Latin ambience are further reasons to set out in winter as well and explore the mountain valley situated on the south-eastern tip of the Grison.
