Der Furka Pass verbindet Andermatt im Kanton Uri mit Gletsch im Kanton Wallis und ist Teil der beliebten Drei-Pässe-Fahrt über Furka, Grimsel und Susten. Im Sommer ist eine Fahrt mit der nostalgischen Furka-Dampfbahn von Realp nach Gletsch ein unvergessliches Erlebnis. Im Winter ermöglicht der Bahn-Basistunnel die ganzjährige Verbindung.

Der Grosse St. Bernhard Pass ist mit 2469m der dritthöchste Pass der Schweiz. Er verbindet das Rhonetal im Wallis mit dem italienischen Aostatal und der Region Piemont und ist die wichtigste Verbindung zwischen der Westschweiz und Italien. Bekannt gemacht haben den Pass zwei ganz unterschiedliche Helden: der Feldherr Napoleon und der Rettungshund Barry.

Der Simplon Pass verbindet den Kanton Wallis von Brig an mit dem Val Divedro und Domodossola in Oberitalien. Der auch im Winter meist geöffnete Pass wird als einer der schönsten Alpenübergänge gerühmt. Heute führt der «Stockalperweg», der erhaltene Simplon-Saumweg aus dem 17. Jahrhundert, als kulturhistorische Wanderroute darüber.

The car-free village of Bettmeralp which is only accessible by a large-car cableway is located in the immediate vicinity of the impressive Aletsch Glacier, the first UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Alps. The family-friendly summer and winter holiday resort boasts almost 300 sunny days a year.

The gateway to Italy, the village of Bourg-St-Pierre is bursting with history and charm, from its ancient buildings to its newly restored mill and the legacies left by former travellers.

The town of Brig with its historic old quarter and the Stockalper Palace lies in the sunny Upper Valais at the foot of the Simplon Pass. Situated at an important junction, Brig is an ideal starting point for excursions. It is close to hiking and ski regions on the Lötschberg and Simplon, and in the Aletsch. It also has its own thermal baths, making it an attractive holiday resort.

In winter, Champéry forms part of the cross-border skiing area "Portes du Soleil", one of the largest continuous skiing areas in the world, with 209 lifts and 650 km of prepared slopes. Nevertheless, the Lower Valais resort of Champéry in the Val d'Illiez has retained much of its traditional charm.
