Guarda

The village that was home to "Schellenursli" with its unique, intact villagescape and richly-decorated houses lies high above the valley floor of the Lower Engadine on a sun terrace. The village name derives from its location: a vantage point with magnificent views up and down the valley. Guarda is renowned for its distinctive villagescape with impressive, sgraffito-decorated Engadine houses.
Tall stone houses with sgraffito-decorated facades line the narrow streets. The ornamentation and simple paintings on the buildings are among the most remarkable examples anywhere in the Engadine. Guarda received the "Wakker Prize" in 1975 and was declared a “Scene of national importance” on account of its exemplary renovation. The village is a place with an almost mystical aura.

How to get there:
Davos-Flüelapass-Susch-Guarda or Landquart-Klosters-Vereina-Tunnel-Guarda.
