Biel is the only town in Switzerland in which French and German are both spoken on an equal basis. The street signs, for example, are written in both languages, and Biel has the open-minded mentality that comes from the mixture of two languages.
It has a pulsating New Town and an attractive Old Town with a tempting array of shops. In addition, it is a watch-making metropolis where the traditional Swiss craft is still cherished. It is only a stone's throw from the bilingual town into the beautiful green undulating landscape of the Jura, and the three lakes of Biel-Bienne, Neuchâtel and Murten-Morat are just on the doorstep.
