Augusta Raurica, one of the most attractive recreation areas in the vicinity of Basel, is the oldest Roman colony on the Rhine. Explore the old Roman town, where about 20,000 people lived. Most of the traces left behind by the Romans have now been excavated and can be seen in the largest archaeological open-air museum in north-west Switzerland, including the best preserved ancient theatre north of the Alps and the unique, reconstructed "Casa Romana".
