The Chablais region is dominated by plunging ravines and alpine pastures with stunning views. The area itself extends from Lake Geneva to Martigny and is administered by Canton Valais. The Chablais really is a genuine paradise for bikers and hikers. Spectacular trails across and along gorges alternate with fantastic high-altitude routes. This is certainly the case on the tour from the monastery village of St Maurice to the Torrent de Saint Barthélémy. After getting through the 12 kilometre climb to the pretty village of Mex, you then pass through the Mauvoisin gorges before descending once more to the Rhône Valley along winding trails.
St-Maurice - Les Emonets - Le Bois Noir - Chez Fraret - Epignat - Les Hautes - Norto - Mex - Les Prés - La Daille - Aussays - Bassays - Les Fenys - Vers-chez Combe - La Vorpillière - St-Martin - St-Maurice
Bike from Saint-Maurice in the direction of Le Bois Noir and onward to La Liardère. A small road leads across the brook at Saint-Barthélémy and further on along the right bank through the valley. Bike up to the altitude of 1200 meters and across the brook to reach Mex. A detour via the center of this picturesque town is highly recommended. At the edge of the rock face which dominates this plain, a small road leads to the rim of the forest of Seintanèret. A steep and slippery path follows. Here you want to be careful! Cross the bridge and after the ascent (in the opposite direction) in the forest bike down to St-Maurice via Vérossaz and Saint-Martin.
