The Nufenen Pass is both Switzerlands highest pass open to motor vehicles and the starting point for a superb cycling tour that actually passes through Italy for much of the way. Well, as spectacular as the circuit is, youre still going to have to shoulder your bike for some of the stages. The Griess Pass, for example, resists all attempts to cross it in the saddle. But no matter, your extraordinary efforts will be rewarded by a peerless mountain landscape.
Passo della Novena / Nufenenpass - Passo del Corno - Cap. Corno Gries - San Giacomo - Riale - Lago di Morasco - Griespass - Passo della Novena / Nufenenpass
Ascend from Nufenen Pass to Griespass and continue on to Passo del Corno. After the highest point of the pass, a technically challenging Single Track leads you down to the Corno-Gries Hut and over to Passo San Giacomo. A very rapid descent down gravel lanes to the Italian Valle di Morasco follows. The long ascent to Griespass begins at Riale. During the last phase of this ascent you will have to shoulder your bike. Once you have reached the top, the imminent descent once again requires your utmost concentration and focus. You will finally reach your starting point via the main road.
