The Schächen Valley's mountain trail is definitely a top-notch trail, so to speak the royal pathway among panoramic trails. Sixteen kilometers long, it opens up to countless fantastic views of the Urnerland. But the trail comes with a price, after all some 1,300 kilometers in altitude difference have to be overcome between the starting point in Flüelen and the beginning of the mountain trail near Unter Balm. And this is not all - on the mountain trail itself another few ascents have to be mastered. But what goes up has to come down: after every ascent, you will be rewarded with a descent! And how! Just imagine, on a stretch of 6 km, the phenomenal altitude difference of 1,000 meters simply vanishes. Enjoy yourself!
Flüelen - Bürglen - Spiringen - Urigen - Untere Balm - Flesch - Eggbergen - Flüelen
The biking tour starts in Flüelen, proceeds on flat terrain to Altdorf and further on to Bürglen. On the Klausen Pass Road you will cycle to Witerschwanden. Now the ride becomes challenging, because from here the ascent takes place on the much steeper hiking trail. Near Urigen, the tour continues on the pass road. In Unter Balm is the turning point of the tour, which at the same time is the starting point of the Schächen Valley mountain trail. Accompanied by spectacular views you will ride down the slope to Eggbergen, which signifies the end of this mountain trail. An ultra steep descent returns you to Flüelen.
