Chasseron
Select your Region:

At 1606 m, the Chasseron is one of the highest peaks in the Jura, and so the views are vast. At the foot of the mountain are Lake Neuchâtel and the town of Yverdon-les-Bains. To the west, you can see as far as Lake Geneva and the Savoy. To the north-east you can see the Chasseron's twin peak, the Chasseral, just 40 cm higher. The bike route up from Yverdon-les-Bains to the Chasseron is technically quite simple, but it's tiring on the legs. The climb up from Baulmes to Ste-Croix is strenuous enough, and it gets even tougher on the final climb up to the summit. Your reward is the view described above and the wonderful downhill section to Grandson. First across meadows, then through woodland and finally along wide paths, the route leads down in several stages back to Lake Neuchâtel.
Yverdon-les-Bains - Vuiteboeuf - Baulmes - Ste-Croix - Les Rasses - Le
Chasseron - Les Rasses - Bullet - Grandson - Yverdon-les-Bains
The Chasseron loop begins in Yverdon-les-Bains and at first follows the footpath towards Vuiteboeuf. From there, a rather flatter path leads across to Baulmes. This is where the climb up to Ste-Croix begins. The first section takes you along the Col de l'Aiguillon pass. 18.1 kilometres into the route, where there is a sharp turn to the left, you leave the road and go 100 m uphill on a trail leading into the forest. There, another track turns off to the right, and after a few hundred metres you come to a wide forest track. By following this uphill, you finally reach Ste-Croix. A road then takes you up to Les Rasses before the final difficult climb up to the Chasseron. From the Chasseron you first go down on the footpath to Les Rasses and then a short flat section takes you to Bullet. A long downhill section on wide tracks leads down to Grandson, after which you go back along the side of the lake to Yverdon-les-Bains.
