Just lie around and laze in the sun like a lizard? Or accept a real challenge, escape the Maggia-Delta and bike over hill and dale, stones and twigs to the lovely traffic-free village of Rasa? The answer is obvious. The tour from Ascona to Rasa requires physical fitness, and includes some treats with regard to demanding technique and skill of the biker. But there are rewards, too, such as the spectacular views of Lago Maggiore, the Leventina and Centovalli.
Ascona - Porano - Casone - Rasa - Bordei - Palagnedra - Intragna - Golino - Ascona
From Ascona ride up the little mountain road to Monti di Ronco. Bike across the mountain crest to Centovalli with gorgeous vistas of Lago Maggiore along the way. A stony, challenging descent leads down to Rasa. The little mountain village, which has retained its original character, can only be reached via a small chairlift or via the hiking trail. A very difficult part with some short passages where you will have to carry your bike, leads down to Bordei. From Bordei take a small asphalt road to reach the valley. Shortly after the Melezza reservoir lake, the narrow Canton Street with its innumerable curves leads to Intragna. Then bike back to Ascona, via the bank of the river, on the hiking trail across Maggia river delta (Maggia-Flussdelta).
