It was on the Simplon Pass, where once upon a time Napoleon and his army traveled south, only to suffer a crushing defeat - life is very peaceful today. The tour to the Ross forest and then down to Brig has much to do with conquering, too, but above all it is the battle to proof you mettle. The ascent covers 20 kilometers, but your bike's tachometer records barely 10 kilometers on the downhill ride. Get it? The technical experts amongst you will be delighted.
Brig - Biela - Lowina - Bächwald - Wäruheji - Riedalpji - Rosswald - Stafel - Saflischmatte - Rosswald - Glimmuschir - Resti - Bächwald - Schlüocht - Bach - Brig
The route starts at the train station of Brig, and runs at first through the Old Town upwards in the directions of Terman and Lowina. From Basweri, the ascent takes you through the shady Ried Forest to the Ross Forest. The next one-and-a-half kilometers are fairly leisurely, but the final ascent to Saflischmatte is tough going. The panorama is sensational and more than rewards you for the challenging ascent. What comes next is pure adrenalin. Thrills and hiking pleasures galore! The downhill ride to Brig has everything your heart desires. On several occasions the descent crosses the technically easy route you used for the ascent. This means that you can leave the challenging route at any time and return on the simpler route to Brig.
