The circular route between Brigels and Waltensburg takes you on a
natural road through verdant meadowland and magnificent forests. In
addition, it offers fascinating insights into the history of the
villages. Starting at the Roman Catholic town of Brigels, you will head
to the reformed town of Waltensburg. Subsequently, ride past the
spectacular Höhlenburg Grotta, a cave-castle rich in legend and lore.
Switzerland's first Eco-Hotel beckons you to stop for a meal. For a
picnic pause, we recommend a barbecue spot equipped with a grill and
firewood in Uaul Pign, or stop at the small public garden Escherstein
in the Quartier Crest la Crusch in Brigels.
Brigels - Plaun Rueun - Migliè - Curtginet - Waltensburg Oberdorf - Munsaus - Brigels
Staying on the natural country road, turn right and cycle past Lake Brigels. Then proceed over the dam; at the junction turn eastward and continue on a natural road leading through lush green meadowland to Waltensburg. The last hundred meters down to Curtginet/Waltensburg stay on the old Alpine Trail. After reaching the parking lot near the mountain trains and Hotel Ucliva in Curtginet, turn into the road leading from Andiast to Waltensburg, which takes you to Waltensburg Oberdorf. The fork of the road leading to Brigels is excellently marked. While still on the paved road, the tour passes the last few houses of the village. At the edge of the village, at Uaul Pign, you'll ride on a natural road to Brigels Village. Some 450 meters after the last houses of Waltensburg, a small path leads to Höhlenburg Grotta, the cave-castle. This path is not rideable.
In Waltensburg, it is worth your while if you make a detour to the village church with its well-preserved frescoes, to the imposing castle ruin, the oldest of the Surselva, the Munt Sogn Gieri and to the stone pillared gallows dating from the time of the witch hunt.
