The Bündner Herrschaft, land of castles
Oldiswald
Select your Region:

The Bündner Herrschaft is famous both for its castles and, of course, for its excellent wines. With towering peaks all around, the Bündner Herrschaft is also the ideal starting place for long bike rides, where you are guaranteed wonderful views over the wide valley, shaped by the Rhine. This is true also as you ride up from Haldenstein to Sasserdunt and back down to the valley through the Oldiswald. The many castle ruins along the route make this a very interesting ride in all respects.
Haldenstein - Trimmis station - bridge over the Rhine at Untervaz - Neuenburg ruin - Sasserdunt - Oldiswald - Haldenstein ruin - Haldenstein
First of all, a flat section leads from the station in Haldenstein along the Rhine to Trimmis. After passing the station in Trimmis you come to the bridge over the Rhine near Untervaz. After crossing the river, you go along the main road past the cement factory. Near the Neuenburg ruin, you begin the climb up to Sasserdunt. After a short stretch where you have to push, you reach the highest point of the route. Then you begin the descent through the Oldiswald down to Haldenstein. Finally, you go past the castle in Haldenstein and back to the station.
