Ziteil

The first recorded pilgrimage to Ziteil (2434 m above sea level) took place in 1580.
According to the legend, an 18-year-old girl in Oberhalbstein once had a vision of a woman clad all in white, who instructed her to "Go forth and tell the people of Oberhalbstein that their sinfulness has become intolerable and that if they do not reform, God will punish them severely, not only blighting the fruits of the field, but allowing the entire people, young and old alike, to die. I can no longer intercede for this people with my Son." Eight days later, the same woman appeared to a 16-year-old youth in Ziteil and repeated the same message to him. When the people thereupon began holding processions, they saw their fields once again bearing fruit and were at last able to hope for a good harvest.
