Vrin / Lumnezia

The sparse, almost arctic Greina Plateau is a landscape of national importance. In its character it is quite unlike any other in Switzerland.
The high plateau of Greina is quite a sight: high above the tree line, it consists of a wide valley surrounded by rounded hills, dark masses of rocks and a silver mountain stream, the Somvixer Rhein, that winds its way through this otherworldly place. It is a place quite unlike any other in Switzerland. There is no other place where so many different types of rock meet each other or where a mountain stream is so free to go where it wants in case of high waters. The area seems to be quasi-Arctic and seeing it is the reward for the rather tough hike from Vrin in the Lugnez or from Campo in the Blenio Valley.

How to get there:
Drive or take public transportation to Vrin via Chur and Ilanz. From Vrin multiple-hour hike.
