Sound mills, sound trees, rock sounds, sound sculptures on a Panorama Trail.
Above Unterwasser, noted builders of musical instruments have created an original hiking trail at the foot of the Churfirsten Mountain that is truly unique. Here people of all ages can hear how stones sound-; they can play on Switzerland's first Rock-Digeridoo- and try out seven different rock-instruments. This is music to your ears: hiking and experimenting with sound objects. Feeling how a tree transmits sound. Seeing how meter-long strings make cowbells ring, thus demonstrating acoustic frequency. And listening and realizing that nature is full of its own organic instruments.
The hike on the Toggenburg Sound Trail (KlangWeg-), between Unterwasser and Wildhaus, takes two hours, including experimenting with several instruments. The trail is in some sections suitable for wheelchair-bound visitors and children in strollers. You can reach the trail on foot or by mountain train from Unterwasser, or from Wildhaus.
Strange, wondrous sounds and a breathtaking view to boot - superlatives for the eye and ear. Take time to experience it all. At the mountain train stations and near the Schwendi Lakes there are several inns where you can stay overnight, in addition there are a plethora of restaurants.
