The awe-inspiring landscape of this hike is part of the Jura ridge path, which leads from Zurich or Basel to Geneva. The immense, horse-shoe shaped rock face of Creux du Van is one of this region's nature highlights.
After a relatively long ascent to Creux du Van (hiking sign-post with red triangle), you will continue onwards on the Jura heights (with their innumerable vantage points for views) to La Combaz. At Restaurant La Combaz, which is located right next to the road and the bus-stop, take the bus to Couvet in Val de Travers, or to Yverdon (please note that the buses are infrequent).
On the way you will encounter three Métairies - farmhouses with adjoining restaurant, which is managed on the side. A visit to a Métairie will give you a good idea of the hard and sparse living circumstances up here.
Other attraction: Rock caldera Creux du Van
For families: Through the Areuse ravine. The best starting point for the attractive ravine hike is the little town of Noiraigues. From here the upper entrance to the Areuse ravine is only a few hundred meters away. The yellow hiking sign-posts with the inscription Boudry point the way to the ravine.
