La jonction - les rives du Rhone

Select your Region:

This hike which starts right in the center of Geneva is without a doubt one of the best opportunities to get to know Rousseau's city. Some of the charming locations in the city lie between the Mont-Blanc bridge and La Jonction. The banks of the Rhone belong to the regions of Switzerland with the strictest nature conservation rules, which protect 70 animal and rare bird species.
Hike along the General Guisan Quai, and cross the bridge of des Bergues. Subsequently walk along the Quais de Turrettuni and Seujet. This stretch is followed by a comfortable route along the Rhone to La Jonction. On the opposite river bank, return to the starting point. This tour is ideally combined with a small river cruise on the Rhone: the ship travels in about an hour and 15 minutes from Quai des Moulins to the dam at Verbois (the hiking route description on the map shows the entire Geneva - Verbois hiking route). From there, a 30 minute stroll to the wine-making village of Russin follows. Take the train back to Geneva (there's a train going in the opposite direction as well!)
Other attraction: The head offices of the United Nations and the International Red Cross are located in Geneva The city of Geneva lies in the heart of a pristine natural landscape. But even within the limits of the city, along the lake with its famous water fountain and through the picturesque Old Town, promenading and strolling around is a pleasure. As soon as night falls over the city, vibrant multi-cultural city life can no longer be held in check. And the festivities and the food let you know that you are nearly in France here.
