Afoot and Afield in the Mountains

The Swiss Alpine Club SAC and the Association of the Swiss Mountain Sport Schools compile the tour programs. The tours are offered in various degrees of difficulty and are normally accompanied by a certified mountain guide.

Before preparing a memorable tour it is important to plan ahead, take weather reports and the condition of the routes into consideration, collect all information on the chosen tour and, of course, to acquire a complete set of mountain gear.

The Swiss Alpine Club through its Sections operates 153 huts with approximately 9,500 sleeping places in the Swiss Alps and High Alps.

Sports activities and nature conservancy are not always and everywhere reconcilable. Conflicts arise frequently: Climbing activities during the breeding times of the peregrine falcon and the eagle owl, or paragliding in areas where chamois make their home, are disturbing influences in pristine nature.
