The high alpine hike connecting Schynigen Platte to the First while hiking over Mt. Faulhorn is a real Bernese Oberland classic. A grand view of the Alps is the hiker's constant companion. The view from Mt. Faulhorn is indescribable: deep in the valley one can see turquoise-blue Lake Brienz and across the valley, the famous mountain triumvirate: Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau
Depart from Schynigen Platte and hike towards Mt. Faulhorn. The hike leads through meadows where sheep graze peacefully. Then the trail turns up steeply, crossing areas that littered with boulders. Then follow the ridge way to finally get to the top of Mt. Faulhorn. In clement weather the restaurant is usually packed and the hotels is often fully booked months in advance. From the Faulhorn, a trail zig-zags down to Lake Bachalp. Once here, follow the wide trail to the First, enjoying the views along the way.
