An interesting hiking tour beckons in the picturesque Lower Engadine valley. Starting in the spa resort of Scuol, the route leads past the mighty Tarasp Castle up to picturesque Ardez. The village is presided over by an imposing hilltop tower. The Inn River cuts its way through a valley lined by meadows speckled with colorful flowers and shady pine forests. Grandiose vistas of the surrounding mountain world come repeatedly into view along the way.
Ardez is one of the few Engadine villages which, after the destruction by the Austrians in 1622, never again fell victimt to fire or other destruction. The 350-year old village with houses decorated with "Sgraffiti" and paintings is a notable sight.
