Passwang
"Mountains and valleys are side by side, with steep cliff faces watching over views so wide", as it says in the words of the local folk-song. The mountain walk from Langenbruck to the Passwang highlights the truth of these lines in no uncertain terms. No fewer than three of the cliff faces referred to in the song are climbed. The thickly wooded Helfenberg is the first to be conquered. Then after a short descent the path climbs up again to the rocky summit of the Chellenchöpfli, the highest peak in the canton of Basle. The views are magnificent. Finally, the path goes gently up and down over the broad back of the Passwang in the border area between the cantons of Basle and Solothurn.
