Walking in a cyclist's paradise
Portes du Soleil
Select your Region:

Portes du Soleil: the name stands for cross-border, unbounded skiing
fun. 14 skiing areas - 8 of them in France and 6 in Switzerland - with
over 200 lifts and cable-/railways combine to make the largest single
skiing area in the world. In summer things are much quieter here, but
even in the warmer months there is spectacular sport. Word has spread
in the biking community about the massive bike park with its many
downhill slopes and tricky tracks, and it is becoming very popular.
Nevertheless, there is room for walkers too. The paths are mostly
strictly separated from the biking trails, so you can enjoy the views
from the mountain paths without interruption.
Croix de Culet - Gîte Chaupalin - Portes du Soleil - Pointe de l'Au - Pertuis Chetrain - La Foilleuse
The station at Troistorrents in the Val d'Illiez is the ideal starting point for the tour. From there, you go by train to Champéry and then by cable-car up to the Croix de Culet. A wonderful mountain path leads first into a hollow, then past the Gîte Chaupalin and up on the other side to the Portes du Soleil. The climb up to the Pointe de l'Au follows the ridge, before a steep and difficult path leads down on to a wider track. Then a mountain path with wonderful views leads gently up and down to La Foilleuse. You take the chair-lift back down to Morgins, and from there buses go back to Troistorrents quite regularly.
