The hills and mountains around the upper Tösstal (Töss valley) are eminently suited for extended hiking and bike tours. Astoundingly beautiful upland routes with views across the Alps, the Zurich Oberland, Lake Zurich, the Greifensee and the Pfäffikersee are a characteristic of entire region. The route from Wald to Steg via the Bachtel is no exception to this. After a relatively steep climb from Wald up onto the Bachtel, the highland trail continues for a good two hours along a vista-packed ridge before the trail drops down into the Tösstal. The observation tower on the Bachtel is the highlight of this route.
Wald - Tänler Restaurant - Bachtel - Egg - Ferenwaltsberg - Restaurant Berg - Ghöchweid - Steg
A trail which is steep in parts but well constructed leads from Wald up onto the Bachtel. Thereafter the wonderful upland route continues on to the Ghöchweid (pasture). The trail finally falls off fairly steeply into the Tösstal until it reaches Steg. Take the train to return to the starting point in Wald.
