This town hall, which is of modest proportions in comparison to the larger town halls of other cities, was built in 1497 on the premises of an older municipal building. On the second floor is the meeting room of the old Confederation, with a polychrome ceiling with beams, and with copies of the glass panels painted by the Zürich glass painter Lukas Zeiner, donated by ten towns in 1500 and sold in 1812. Gradually evolved from a basic core on the rocky hill of Castelgrande, today's dam can be attributed above all to the extensive building activities of the dukes of Milan. Since 2001, the castles have been listed by UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage Sites.
