From the colourful picture-postcard world of Appenzell to the snowy peaks of the Heidiland region, and from the sweeping orchards of Thurgau to the vineyards of Schaffhausen, Eastern Switzerland boasts an exceptional variety of scenery. Not to mention the famous abbey library in St. Gallen, mighty fortresses and magnificent castles, picturesque rivers, glittering, silvery-blue lakes – Lake Constance, Lake Zu.rich and Lake Walen – and the gently sloping paths through lush nature that have recently given Eastern Switzerland a name as a paradise for inline skaters.

The GeoPark between Elm and Lake Walen covers an area of 300 square kilometres and is so exciting that part of it has made it onto the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites. In the “Swiss Tectonic Arena Sardona”, rock that is 250 million years old has pushed its way over much “younger” strata with no more than 35 million years to their name. The resulting natural rock formation with its knife-like serrations and the famous Martinsloch rock hole can be seen for miles around.How to get there
