The world-famous trio of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau are the crowning glory of a magnificent mountain holiday region. Alpinism was born here 150 years ago, and today the area offers glorious hiking trails and all manner of adventure up on the crags. There are plenty of gentler attractions, too, making Interlaken and the Jungfrau Region ideal for families with children of all ages: crystal clear mountain lakes to splash around and cool off in, and the Lauterbrunnen valley, festooned with Europe’s highest waterfalls.
Europe’s seventh heaven.
You have to admire Switzerland’s railway pioneers: the route from Kleine Scheidegg up to the Jungfraujoch impressively climbs inside the mountain, offering dramatic glimpses down through openings in the rock wall, and ends at Europe’s highest station – where the longest glacier in the Alps begins. The views made history: the landscape of the Jungfrau Region was the first in the Alps to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. How to get there
