The Watchmaking Route leads throughout the scenic Watch Valley region. It was here in the 17th century that the first mechanical workshops arose, leading to Switzerland’s international reputation as a watchmaking nation. The most important brands have their factories here, while La Chaux-de- Fonds is also home to the International Watchmaking Museum. But Watch Valley also offers very different attractions: such as the music-box village of Sainte-Croix, the absinthe-producing Val de Travers, the mighty cliffs at Creux du Van, and a host of dramatic gorges.
Fine prospects in the Jura.
At 1,607 metres, the Chasseral towers over the Swiss Plateau and the Three Lakes Region. The views extend to the Alps; on fine days, as far as the Vosges. In this tranquil setting, visitors are greeted with local delicacies served on the wooden tables of mountain restaurants that wait at the end of scenic footpaths. Furthermore, a regional park is being set up to ensure that the Chasseral’s precious natural heritage is preserved. How to get there
