The Neuchâtel region – between lakes and mountains
A lakeshore draped with vineyards and villages; beside the water,
a mediaeval university city that draws lovers of art and culture
from far and wide; stretching behind it, a landscape of hills and
pastures that leads all the way up to the watch capital, La Chauxde-
Fonds; hidden valleys, romantic gorges, forested slopes leading
down to the meandering River Doubs… Neuchâtel’s countryside
will surprise you with its variety of landscapes and its rich
history, traces of which are to be seen all around: castles, monuments
and unique museums that house exquisite examples of the
watchmaker’s art, as well as a host of other historical treasures.
