Biasca/Riviera
Open sesame… When you travel from the north along the long drawn-out Valle Leventina, at Biasca a light seems to come on. For this is where the sun-blessed, unspoilt Valle di Blenio opens out.
Perched on both sides of the valley are old villages, whose churches, Romanesque bell-towers and patrician houses tell of a rich history. St. Peter and Paul in Biasca, for example, is a national monument; its scenic Way of the Cross breathes a bewitching, simple poetry. The vegetation all around is lush: vineyards and forests of sweet chestnut trees cover the mountainsides, fed by rivers that cascade over high cliffs. The heights and mountain peaks offer visitors magnificent views; the grotti – typical traditional inns – locally produced cured meat, sausages, cheese and red wine.
