Blenio
One would think that anyone living in the Valle di Blenio ought to have a sunny disposition – for the valley could hardly be better situated.
Its north-south orientation means that the sun shines equally on the slopes on both sides of the river Brenno: no wonder that locals call their home the valley of the sun. The best way to explore it is on the well-signposted network of footpaths, which extend for more than 500 km, past majestic peaks such as the Rheinwaldhorn – at 3,402 m, the highest mountain in Ticino. The valley has a long history – as witnessed not only by the impressive ruins of the medieval fortress of Serravalle, which are currently being excavated, but also by the many historical footpaths, such as those over the Greina and Lucomagno passes, and over the Nara.
