800 vertical metres make all the difference… A trip along the Valle Leventina is a journey between climate zones: from the palms and vineyards of the south to the thick pine forests of the mountains.

Its highlights are impressive: 650 km of hiking, cycling and mountain bike routes; one of the steepest funicular railways in the world, up to Lake Ritom; and the path through the Piottino gorge, whose walls rise vertically into the blue Ticino sky. The welcoming mountain huts serve up regional specialities; for dessert, there are magnificent mountain lakes, fragrant alpine meadows, and boundless panoramic views. Also recommended – for mental nourishment – are the fine museums, masterpieces of Romanesque architecture and the visitor centre of the longest railway tunnel in the world.
