Gambarogno
Ten kilometres of pure “Ticinità”… On the slopes of the Gambarogno above Lake Maggiore, one typical Ticino village is stretched out after another, like a string of pearls.
The pretty row only comes to an end at the border with Italy. Located at the foot of the Monte Ceneri pass, with the spacious Magadino plateau to one side, the region enjoys a rich cultural and scenic heritage. Definitely well worth a visit are the Bolle, a magical and mysterious wetland nature reserve best explored in a rowing boat. Other musts include boat excursions on Lake Maggiore: to the Brissago islands, for example, with their magnificent botanical gardens; or across the border into Italy, to the Borromeo islands. To round the tour off, stop at a restaurant – to dine on fish, of course, freshly caught in the lake.
