Of all the wonderful valleys in the Ticino, the Verzasca
with its Mediterranean climate is the most appealing – for
romantics (the upper valley) and adventurers (the lower).
Higher up, the valley has exceptionally beautiful bathing
spots where the green water flows like liquid jade around
rocks eroded into fabulous shapes. Adrenalin junkies,
meanwhile, congregate lower down the valley: at the dam
from which James Bond memorably leapt in the film
“GoldenEye”. Just for once, copying his antics is recommended:
the “007 bungee jump” from the dizzy height of
220 m takes exactly 7.5 seconds. Which certainly earns a
refreshing dip in Lake Maggiore. Unless, of course, the
adventures are to continue – with canyoning, river diving,
kitesurfing, climbing at the Gordola sports centre…
