Pays de Neuchâtel
This is a region of many layers. Down on the lake stands the aristocratic town of Neuchâtel, with its elegant façades and dreamy views into the distance.
High up in the Jura lies La Chaux-de-Fonds, a city laid out on a grid, centre of Art Nouveau and heart of the watchmaking industry. Anyone who thinks that little separates the two is mistaken. Extensive vineyards adorn the slopes, making for lively wine festivals every autumn. And beyond the horizon stretches a wild, mystical and romantic landscape. Through its heart flows the River Doubs; in the side valleys, the legendary absinthe – you can visit the distilleries where it is made in the Val de Travers. The climax is the Creux du Van, a vast natural amphitheatre of rock, home to ibex – and breathtaking views.
