While the buildings in the Rhone valley's old towns show an
unmistakeable Italian influence, the narrow alleyways and
weather-beaten barns, stables and old wooden houses of the mountain
villages transport you back in time, witnesses to a bygone era and
typical of the area around Visp. Palms flourish in the valley, while
snow and ice fields adorn the mountains up above.
On the water trail
"Visp and area" is one of the sunniest areas in Switzerland. Which is why the "Suonen" irrigation system was developed. Follow the picturesque paths along the channels and discover the system for yourself.
Hiking
Hike up the Barrhorn (3,610m) - the highest alpine summit accessible without climbing, discover the wild beauty of the valleys, hike to stunning viewpoints or through beautiful forests - we have everything you could wish for.
Culinary highlights
To really do our local products justice, try sampling them on the spot. Try Heida from Europe's highest vineyard, or our rye bread, cured meat, local sausages, mountain and raclette cheeses.
