The Jura is not just the youngest canton in Switzerland
(established 1979), but the one that most cherishes
freedom.
In this land of wild, wide-open pastures, even
the horses enjoy special privileges: the proud, half-wild
Freiberger breed are kept out in the open, in fields
bounded only by little stone walls. Alongside them run
idyllic footpaths and bike trails; further adventures are
promised by fun scooter rides, kayaking on the River
Doubs, visits to splendid nature reserves and to the
thrilling caves and dinosaur park at Réclère. One of the
most memorable experiences on offer is a holiday in a
covered wagon. For days on end, you and your family are
on the road, taking care of the horse, deciding yourselves
whether to spend the night in a hotel or, like the horse,
sleep in straw.
