15 billion cubic meters of rocks and mud slid into the valley and dammed up the Rhine. Over the years though, the Rhine ate its way through the soft limestone, creating the canyon-like valley of the Vorderrhein Gorge. The flanks are well-forested and contrast the grey-silver of the stone well. In the valley, the Rhine meanders though the canyon, creating small peninsulas, a singular landscape not to be found anywhere lese in Switzerland. There is a hiking trail that goes right into the gorge from Trin. The Rhine here is also favored by river-rafting aficionados.
