Sleeping at the Mountain Hotel Schynige Platte is a special treat: before dinner go for a brief stroll at an altitude of 2000 m.a.s.l. and once more look at the mountain triumvirate Eiger, Mönch und Jungfrau which reign in majestic silence after the last train has departed. The only sound one can still discern are the cowbells. Far away, one can see the glittering strips which are the Lakes Biel and Neuchatel.
At dawn, try to get up early and watch the spectacle in reverse: slowly the first rays of light hit the mountains bringing them into focus slowly. What a way to relax and escape the everyday! The hotel is right next door to the more than 100-year-old rack-and-pinion train which makes for an easy transfer.
