Bettmeralp

The first gondola train to the Bettmerhorn, built in 1975, has transported in its 20 years of operation over eight million guests. With the opening of its new 8-seater gondola train in 1996, the resort of Bettmeralp has set new standards – after all, the train is considered the most modern of its kind.
In less than eight minutes, tourists can reach the Bettmerhorn. The uni-cable car with 88 closed cabins makes it possible to transport 2300 persons per hour. Even physically challenged visitors with wheelchairs can comfortabley travel on any of the gondolas. Between Bettmeralp and Bettmerhorn the cable car climbs 659 meters over a distance of 2,309 meters.
Although it is still 213 meters from the mountain station to the peak of the Bettmerhorn (2856m), this fact does not detract from the quality of the vista from the viewing station. Even if the distant view is not completely clear due to the weather, you will be able to discern the Matterhorn or the Bernese Alps via the Great Aletsch Glacier. This natural wonder is surrounded by no less than six four-thousand meter peaks.
A secure path leads to the summit, a fixed-rope trail to the Eggishorn. Also famous is the glacier trail to the even more famous Märjelen Lake
