It is worth taking the cable car up to the Bettmerhorn or Eggishorn if only to get a sense of just how colossal the Great Aletsch Glacier really is. This natural spectacle can be admired just a few metres away from the mountain stations on these two peaks. On the Bettmerhorn, the more adventurous can continue on to the summit (30 mins) along a trail secured with fixed wire ropes and wooden steps.
